Steam Locomotives

23: Class 4-4-0 Metropolitan 1866 Steam Loco

Like so many artefacts in the LT Museum, this is the only surviving locomotive of its type being constructed by Beyer Peacock in Manchester. Following introduction, it served on normal services until 1935, when it moved to track maintenance duties until 1949.

It has been housed at the LT Museum at Covent Garden on the mid-level terrace since the museum opened in 1980.
